Networking
Discusses the lower levels of communications technology, covering the skills and knowledge used by networking specialists. It covers both equipment and connectivity used in LANs (Local Area Networks) and WANs (Wide Area Networks), and the architecture of the different types of networks, including topologies and connections. Wireless networks, including Bluetooth, WiFi and WiMax are also covered. Protocols and communication layers are covered, as well as network management systems. Analog and digital transmissions are compared, and types of transmission such as packet switching and switched networks are defined. Networking terminology including backbone, handshake, node, and other terms and functions are defined. Technologies used in network security are also covered.
Audience:
Technical Recruiters, account managers, and trainers who work with network analysts, administrators, designers, and communications specialists are the main audience for this session. Anyone who needs to understand the physical structure of computer networks will benefit from attending this session. This session covers additional information to that covered in CSTA (Comoputers: Systems, Terms, and Acronyms) and is intended for people who need in-depth knowledge.
Objectives:
Upon completion of the training, the participant will be able to:
- Confidently communicate with IT professionals about computer networks;
- Name and understand different types of networks.
- Understand the difference between analog and digital transmission;
- Understand what the work is done in the different layers of communications processing;
- Understand what communications protocols are;
- Use the online database, TechRef®, to reference information about networking concepts, technology and products.
