Wireless Technology
As communications technology evolves, the use of wireless transmission increases in use. The benefits of accessing networks, including the Internet, without having to build or locate a cable connection are many, and it's estimated that over 60% of all connection to the Internet will be wireless by 2004. Wireless systems have introduced new technologies including additional security measures, different applications, and new languages and development tools. This session covers the infrastructure of wireless networks, development of applications for wireless devices such as PDAs and smartphones, and security protocols for extra authentication and encryption necessary because of the free accessibility of the radio waves used in wireless transmission. This weblet does not cover the complementary embedded technology which is covered in Embedded Systems for those who need to understand the technology of programming chips, or integrated circuits.

Audience:
Technical Recruiters, account managers, and trainers who work with network analysts, administrators, designers, and communications specialists are the main audience for this session. Anyone who needs to understand wireless networks and applications will benefit from attending this session.
Objectives:
Upon completion of the training, the participant will be able to:
- Confidently communicate with IT professionals about wireless technology;
- Name and understand different types of wireless networks.
- Understand the issues and tools involved in developing software for wireless platforms;
- Understand the choices available for wireless transmission;
- Use the online database, TechRef®, to reference information about wireless technology concepts and products.
